Heartbreak

Soulmates, but maybe not meant to be

Soulmates, but maybe not meant to be

When I met Paul, something in me whispered, “That’s him… my soulmate.”

He understood me in ways no one ever had. The connection was effortless we clicked as if we had known each other forever. With him, everything felt right.

He knew when I needed help, even before I said a word, and he always knew exactly how to show up for me.

Our love felt almost unreal. To others, it seemed like we were doing too much, but to us, it was natural. We weren’t pretending we had simply found something rare. We learned to respect each other deeply and understand each other’s boundaries.

As time went on, we made the decision to settle down. He came to meet my parents, and I did the same with his. Everything was falling into place.

In my church, marriage requires counseling, so we met with my pastor and were given forms, including medical tests we had to complete.

When the results came back, everything was fine except for one thing our genotypes. Paul is AC, and I am AS. The moment I saw it, my heart sank. I broke down in tears because I had read about genotype compatibility and the risks it carries for our future children. The thought of bringing a child into the world who might suffer was unbearable. We submitted the results to the pastor, and he advised us strongly against getting married because of it.

Our families also shared the same concern. They believed it would be wiser for us to go our separate ways now rather than face possible pain in the future.

But love love is not that simple. We love each other deeply, and walking away feels impossible. I’m not ready to leave him, and he feels the same way.Now we are torn between love and reality. Are we being selfish by wanting to stay together, knowing the risks for our future children?

Do we go ahead with the marriage and hope for the best or do we choose the painful path of letting go to avoid a lifetime of possible heartbreak?
